The trip to Nationals will start in Calgary and end up in central Ontario. En-route there is a surf stop at Sturgeon Falls, Manitoba and a variety of breaks to get some paddling in.

We will arrive in Minden to practise at the Gull River Wildwater Preserve for a week . While at the Gull we will be participating in the test event for the 2015 Pan American Games and then the National Freestyle Championships.

Then we will move camp up to the Madawaska River and the Madawaska Kanu Centre for the National Wildwater and Slalom Championships.

AWA Annual General Meeting

The Alberta Whitewater Association will be hosting its Annual General Meeting at the Basspro Community Meeting Room at the Cross Iron Mills Shopping Centre north of Calgary on January 25th. The meeting will start at 10:00 am and run through until 4:00. Refreshments and lunch will be provided. Travel support is available for all out of town clubs. Alberta Summer Games - Airdrie

The Alberta Summer Games are being held in Airdrie from July 24-27, 2014. There are 3 events held at the Alberta Summer Games for Canoe/Kayak, Canoe Polo, Slalom and Downriver. There will be a Pre-ASG camp held on the Upper Red Deer River near Sundre from July 20-24 for anyone interested in working on their skills and getting ready for the Games with their teams.

Summer Staff Training

The AWA and ASCK will be running its annual Summer Staff Training Workshop from May 1 - May 5 this year. The training will be centred out of Calgary with trips to the Kananaskis and Pincher Creek for the first Alberta Cup race. The schedule for the week:

May 1: Who's Who in our Zoo, Administration, Working with Clubs and Volunteers, Professional Development opportunities

May 2: Kananaskis - river leading, river instructing

May 3: Kananaskis - river leading, river instructing, slalom coaching, freestyle coaching

The AWA has a casino at Casino Calgary (1420 Meridian Road NE /16th Avenue & Barlow Trail) on Tuesday July 30 and Wednesday July 31 and we are in need of volunteers. We need volunteers for all positions.

Provincial Championships

The AWA Provincial Whitewater Championships run from Friday evening to Monday afternoon at Canoe Meadows. Camping is available on site with a meal package for the weekend. Events include slalom race, downriver race, freestyle competitions, boater cross and games nights.
