The 2013 AFKA / World Kayak Sundre Paddlefest Hometown Throwdown will be held on the Upper Red Deer River (S-Bends area) on July 27 / 2013. This event will be held in conjunction with the Sundre Whitewater Paddlefest.
This year AFKA and World Kayak will be hosting the freestyle event at the S-Bends, and the Boatercross which will see participants run from Gooseberry Ledge all the way to the finish line at S-Bends. We have a few twists during the Boatercross that you will not want to miss! The AFKA / WK event will be on the Saturday of the Sundre Whitewater Paddlefest weekend event, and the prize draw will be at the conclusion of the WKT events...on the Saturday! All proceeds will go towards AFKA in helping develop freestyle initiatives throughout the province.
Draw Prize / Raffle
This year we have a ton of prizes to give away!
- Subaru Calgary and Undercurrents will be giving away a 2013 Jackson Kayak Karma Medium creeking kayak!
- Aquabatics Calgary is donating a Kokatat Maximus Prime PFD, and any one of their very popular weekend paddling courses as another main draw!
- Lastly, Outdoor Gear Canada will be providing a GoPro Hero 3 Silver Edition Camera to the event as well!
Many other prizes will be given out after the main draw! YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO CLAIM YOUR PRIZE! Registered participants will receive a single prize draw ticket upon arrival at the event. Volunteers will receive five draw tickets. Additional prize draw tickets can be purchased here online or throughout the day at the event. Additional Tickets will be sold for $5 / each, or 5 for $20.
T-Shirts
Official 2013 AFKA / World Kayak designed T-Shirts can be purchased online or at the event for $20 each. Purchase early as we have limited quantities.
Food
There is no food provided specifically for the WKT event. However as part of the Paddlefest weekend event you may purchase meals for the weekend, 2 breakfasts and 1 dinner, these will be held at the Red Deer River Ranch, main site for the weekend event.
AWA Membership
To participate in this event you must be a member of the Alberta Whitewater Association. Membership can be via a club (click here to find a club in your area), individual AWA membership (click here to purchase) OR you may select event only membership when registering for the event, for a fee of $5.
Waivers & Photo Release
Waivers and photo releases must be signed by all participants for the AFKA / World Kayak Events. Please print and fill out all waivers now, to expedite your check in at the event. Otherwise you'll need to fill them out upon your arrival. Your choice, your pre-printing just makes everyone's life a wee bit easier!

To participate in the event you must be a member of the AWA. If you are not already a member you may sign up in advance through one of the AWA member clubs, you may purchase individual membership in advance or you may purchase event only membership during your online event registration (AVAILABLE SOON).
