River Safety Project | Alberta Whitewater Association

The Alberta Whitewater Association has received a Transport Canada Grant for several river safety initiatives from 2023-2025. The River Watercraft Safety Program has three parts:

1. An Online River Safety course for the general recreational paddler on the basics of river safety.

The free Online River Safety Course is now live!

2. SUP awareness campaign about the dangers of ankle leashes in moving water. #SUPUnleashed

3. PFD Lending Station at Harvie Passage in Calgary.

The Free PFD Lending Station was operational in summer 2024 and the demand far exceeded our expectations. We are planning to operate the PFD Lending Station again in summer 2025.
