Welcome to the Women’s Whitewater Weekend! We’re so excited to host this event again and we’re looking forward to a wicked gathering of paddlers!

Baker Creek Mountain Resort in Lake Louise has generously donated a prize valued at $850 for one lucky Women’s Whitewater Weekend registrant: a one-night stay in a private cabin at Baker Creek Mountain Resort and a three-course meal for two in their renowned Bistro. Anyone who registers by 11:59pm Friday 2 July will be entered to win this amazing prize!

Registration is $70 per person. All women and non-binaries are welcome. Please don’t register if you’re a cis male.

If you are an experienced paddler and interested in leading or running safety for peer-led river runs at this event, please contact Elissa at women.ww.weekend@gmail.com before registering. We are offering free registration for anyone who volunteers on Saturday or Sunday as well as up to $80 in transportation expenses for those who volunteer both Saturday and Sunday.

We will be camping at Sunset Guiding on the Panther River (5km from Blue Bridge on the Red Deer River). This venue boasts running water, hot showers, flush toilets, plenty of firewood and is right on the Panther River, which is a quick Class II creek that feeds into the Red Deer River above Blue Bridge. We have a very large grassy field to camp in and there will be plenty of space to distance ourselves and keep each other safe.

To participate in the weekend, you must have the ability to self-rescue on a class II river. Participants may join peer-led river runs with experienced kayakers, but you are the person primarily responsible for your own safety.

You must be an AWA (Alberta Whitewater Association) member to attend this event. You can become an AWA member directly for $15: https://www.albertawhitewater.ca/individual-membership or join your local club that’s affiliated with AWA. https://www.albertawhitewater.ca/find-club

This will be a BYO meals and beverages event. No food or beverages will be provided. You may purchase food/beverages from the café at the venue. Café hours are 8:30am to 5pm. (prices are very reasonable. The milkshakes have received rave reviews in the past!) http://www.sunsetguiding.com/sunset-cafe/ We may not return from the river before the café closes on Saturday, so please ensure you bring adequate food for Saturday’s dinner. Lunches should be packed in dry bags to be eaten river-side on Saturday and Sunday. The venue may provide a BBQ, but that’s not yet confirmed.

We will also not be providing any gear. You must bring everything you need for the weekend. You must bring a mask and wear it when shuttling. All whitewater enthusiasts in any self-propelled craft are encouraged to attend.

We are still finalizing the schedule for the weekend. There will be a Panther river run on Friday evening, and Red Deer river runs on Saturday and Sunday. We are also trying to organize a surfing session at S-Bends, but that is not yet confirmed. There may also be a group activity or games on the Saturday evening, depending on covid restrictions.
