Formed in 1973 by the O'Briens and cohort, EWP has a long tradition of youth development, high performance athlete development and memorable polo events. The O'Briens and their group of dedicated volunteers have created a stabile structure for sport to excel in Edmonton.

EWP hosted the 2008 World Canoe Polo Championships and hosts the Cup of the North every February, which is the largest polo event in North America.

Many National Team athletes in polo, slalom and wildwater have come from EWP. Two slalom Olympians, David Ford and Roy Sharplin can also include EWP as part of their roots.

The ACPA was created to help support canoe polo development in Alberta. Casino funding and a dedicated organization (like Alberta Slalom and Alberta Playboaters) helps create a strategic direction for discipline development.

The A-Division provides a high class spectator opportunity with all the excitement that polo is known for. 

Have you seen a Obeco boat kicking around and wonder where it came from? For years the brothers built boats in a warehouse in Edmonton creating fleets of polo and slalom boats that have been used in competitions all over Alberta, Canada, and around the world.

The O'Briens converted from university gymnastics in the 70s, to Canoe Slalom and represented Canada at 7 Slalom World Championships in C2. Their stories about travels in Europe in the 80s are always entertaining.

They are 5 time National C2 Slalom Champions & 8 time Downriver Champions.

In 1994 they switched over to Canoe Polo and spent 18 years on the Polo National Team and attended 5 World Canoe Polo Championships!
